Short film or Feature-length, you’ll learn how to set your story up and how to bring it home, whether you’re writing drama, action, comedy, or high concept.
Think like a screenwriter, work on your tone, and develop your idea with in-depth training and step-by-step instruction.
Poorly formatted scripts, typos, and other errors tell the coverage reader that your work lacks professionalism. Fail at delivering a correctly formatted, typo-free script and it’s going straight in the trash bin.
Once written, get ready to pitch your screenplay to the agents, producers, and Hollywood execs who can get your movie made.
It isn’t. You are too good not to be true to your dreams.
The Art, Craft, and Business of Screenwriting

Write well and you’ll have a stronger chance of getting moved up the food chain of the movie-making world.
See how Aristotle, Joseph Campbell, and Pixar are all driving for the same narrative goals. After an introduction to the coursework, we’ll discuss finding your voice, dedicating time to writing your screenplay, and the realities of scriptwriting. Namely, how to get your script past the gatekeepers.
You’ll learn how to write a narrative, develop your characters, and establish conflict during the first three weeks of the workshop. We’ll discuss the key elements all screenplays should have.
Learning how “narrative springboards” can jumpstart the creative process, taking in the world around you as inspiration, and using prompts. Creating an original work or adapting existing material (fair use and public domain works will be discussed).
The importance of a three-act structure, the differences between structure and plot, and specific needs for each act. How to grab the reader in the first 10 pages and bring it all together in the end.
The theme should inform most of the decisions you make when it comes to writing your script. Your theme will keep the story consistent and on point.
The anatomy and needs of a scene and how scenes link together to form sequences. Moving the plot forward, building tension, and the importance of scene pacing will be covered.
There are many ways to craft your characters. Poorly should not be one of them. You’ll learn how to build your characters and how they become the force of your screenplay.
This lesson looks into the elements that allow characters to express themselves via text and subtext. How exposition helps set a scene and move the story along will also be covered.
Who is telling the story, where are they coming from, and how they are emotionally connected to the story. From an omniscient point of view to unreliable narrators, you’ll learn how best to establish the storyteller.
Celebrated British thespian Edmund Kean allegedly coined the phrase “Dying is easy, comedy is hard.” Learn the differences between writing for comedy and drama and why the two aren’t as disparate as you might think.
What genre is and isn’t, its identifiable tropes, and a breakdown of genres and sub-genres. How the market factors in writing and balancing the expectations of the audience while remaining true to your voice.
Learn how to properly format your screenplay. Remember the gatekeepers? If your screenplay isn’t properly formatted - font face and size, margins, etc. - it will NEVER get read. Don’t give them any reason to dump your story before.
At the end of this mentor-led course, you’ll be able to present a finished, formatted screenplay to an agent, producer, director, and other filmmaking decision-makers. With Film Connection screenwriting classes online, you’ll learn to avoid the pitfalls that discourage, and frankly, stump so many writers. And when you finish shopping this project around, you’ll have the tools to start in on the sequel - or whatever other movie you have in mind.
Do you think there’s value in learning one-on-one? Our 12-week screenwriting workshop is a video lecture series available online. If you want, you can also work directly, one-on-one with Ron Osborn and other working Hollywood Screenwriters with major credits. They will mentor you in a direct, step-by-step manner. That way, when you have that one burning question, all you have to do is ask to get actionable advice you can put to use immediately.
It isn’t. You are too good not to be true to your dreams.
